We use media and communications to help reduce poverty, address development goals, and support people to understand their rights. We do this through partnering with media, civil society, and others to produce creative programmes and other outputs which inform and engage audiences on key development issues. We also strengthen the media sector through building professional capacity and infrastructure of local media organisations in the countries in which we work.Our North Africa operations are based in Tunis. From here we deliver a portfolio of media projects in Tunisia, Libya and Algeria, and work to ensure they are delivered on time, to the highest possible standard, and in accordance with BBC editorial values and BBC Media Action best practice.ObjectiveBBC Media Action is looking to engage the services of a talented and experienced Freelance Video Producer for its Libya platform El Kul . The selected freelancer will collaborate with our BBC Media Action editorial team to create engaging video series that align with our platform's mission.Scope of work & Working ArrangementsThe Freelance Video Producer will be responsible for capturing high-quality images and videos for use in a video series and its promotional materials. The role requires a deep understanding of our mission and an ability to creatively express the key development issues we address.The selected candidate will work as a freelancer and will be commissioned for a social media series of 4 episodes.Key Responsibilities: * Conceptualizing and planning the production set for optimal shooting conditions and visual aesthetics.
  • Conducting interviews and gathering video material.
  • Scripting, filming, and editing video content.
  • Applying special effects, music, voice over, and other elements to create engaging video content.
  • Editing raw video footage to create a final product that aligns with the vision of the project.
  • Collaborating with the content creation team to align the final visual content with the overall project vision.
  • Maintaining a consistent style and tone across all video content.
  • Incorporate project branding elements, typography, colour palette, and design principles into visual content.
  • Ensure the video editing is well-structured, engaging, and adheres to project objectives and as assigned.
  • Collaborating with editorial departments to brainstorm and develop a variety of content deliverables.
Key Deliverables:
  • Deliver professionally edited 4 episodes and one teaser (promotional video) that align with the vision of the projects and adhere to BBC's editorial standards.
  • Actively participate in planning and review sessions with the project team.
  • Ensure all videos are delivered as per the agreed schedule for the project.
Required: Skills, knowledge, and experience:
  • A minimum of three years' experience as a video editor or/graphic design, ideally within a media, non-profit, or development context.
  • At least 3 years' experience as a video journalist, ideally within a media, non-profit, or development context.
  • Proficiency in operating video and audio equipment.
  • Proficiency with professional editing software such as Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Premiere Pro, or similar.
  • Excellent storytelling skills, with an ability to convey complex ideas in a compelling, concise, and creative way.
  • Experience in catering to the Libyan digital audience and/or familiarity with the Libyan context.
  • Ability to work within the established aesthetic framework and create visually appealing content that resonates with diverse audiences.
  • Familiarity with various digital platforms, including social media, and websites and an understanding of how content is consumed on these platforms.
  • Demonstrable proof of previous work showcasing a wide range of photographs and videos
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and meet deadlines.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
Preferred: Skills, knowledge, and experience:
  • Understanding of BBC Media Action's editorial values or the ability to learn and apply them.
  • Knowledge and understanding of El Kul's editorial identity or the ability to quickly adapt texts to suit El Kul's editorial identity.
  • Fluent in English and Arabic.
